La’Shawn Waters is one of the co-owners of Rising Hope Therapy. In the course of her career, she has counseled individuals, families and couples struggling with many different issues including depression, communication barriers, conflict resolution, anxiety, anger management, marital issues and grief and loss. La’Shawn obtained her Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Wilmington University, where she received the Clinical Excellence Award and her Bachelor of Science degree in Family & Community Services comes from the University of Delaware. She is a National Certified Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor of Mental Health (LPCMH).
La’Shawn has a diverse range of experience with various demographics across the lifespan, including but not limited to children, adolescents, adults and geriatric with all levels of severity from mild life change stressors to those who struggle with chronic mental illness. She has administered therapy in homes, schools and in the community as well as in traditional outpatient settings. Most recently, La’Shawn’s experience has expanded to providing short-term, solution-focused therapy to military service members, spouses and children as a Military and Family Life Counselor for the Air National Guard.
La’Shawn’s approach is an integrative combination of person-centered, cognitive-behavioral and emotion-focused therapies given in a gentle yet direct manner. In a session with La’Shawn, she will listen and respond intentionally while noting recurring themes that may keep clients stuck. Clients have described La’Shawn as encouraging, reassuring, compassionate and can also bring her sense of humor into the therapeutic experience, which overall has created an environment of comfort and safety.
